Mating Season Chapter 10

Sonic The Hedgehog was immensely bored. When he didn't pick up Amy, she spam called him, usually he just let the machine get it, but no, Amy had called and left messages until the memory was full.

'I know she's been excited before, but this is a whole new level, even for her.'

So now, he had given up and there he was, with Amy, clinging to his arm at Twinkle Park.

"Oh Sonic, this is wonderful. I can't believe we got in free, y'know?" Amy said in a cheery tone.

'Yeah, that, or you just threatened them with your hammer. Seriously, it took us ten minutes to get in here! Three when we got here, five more for the line, and then another two with the threats and such. Pfft.'

"Yeah...." Sonic agreed in a flat voice, quietly thanking Shadow and Rouge did not come. Yay for no taunts or snide remarks.

"Ooh! Let's go there, that looks fun!" Amy pointed over to the 'love boat' ride.
"Uhh, nah, I, um, will be right back...." Sonic spotted the restrooms and ran over to it, breaking Amy's death arm lock.
"Oh, ahhh, okay. I'll be over there getting some Cotton Candy for us to share, then." And Amy scooted away.

Sonic ran to a place that was out of sight, even if it was not that pleasant smelling.

'Crudcrudcrud....! Okay, now. How to disappear without being noticed....great. These are the times I wish I wasn't a world-wide hero.'

"Oi, you two are getting heavy...." Shadow mused and walked up to the fridge.

Sweet. He needed something sweet. Just pure sugary goodness.

"Argh. Why is there no fricking pudding in this house? Pfft, forget it, I'm getting some myself." Shadow didn't mind writing a quick note to Rouge, -Who was away on a "quick mission, don't do anything stupid when I'm gone"- he would be fast enough to do this with ease, so he grabbed a large trench coat to hide his good sized baby bump, and left the house to get the creamy sweet snack he desired.

When he got there, about to make his first public appearance in months, stepped foot in the store and tried to not cause anything that would turn attention his way.

'Thank Chaos this covers my head as well. The only way anyone can spot me is how my quills are arranged.'

Shadow made a sneaky fast grab at the pudding cup six-pack, and then quickly made his way to the check out.

'Please don't ask for ID. Please don't ask for ID. Please don't ask for ID. Pleas-'

"Have a nice day, sir." The clerk said and Shadow disappeared like his name.

'Phew, that was too close, but so worth the risk.'

When Shadow got back to the house though.....

"Shadow The Hedgehog!"

The ebony hedgehog cringed.
He had been too late.

"Soooooooonic~! Oh, why do you leave me!? SONIC HEDGEHOG! Ohh!~" Amy Rose scanned the area.

'I leave him for one minute- no, moment- no, millisecond and he runs off!'

The blue hedgehog she was looking for then just ran up to her without a second thought.

"Soni-"
"Oh, hi Amy. I just got a call from Tails, and he said he needs me for something. Yeah. So, I gotta go, okthnksbye!" Sonic said rather quickly.
"Sonic, what does he need you for??" Amy put her hands on her hips.
Sonic thought for a moment, then came up with something. "Uhmm, he wants to test the Tornado verses my speed for testing...."

"Can't he do that later?" Amy raised an eyebrow.
"...Amy, please." Sonic made 'puppy eyes'.

"....Sonic, this has been the best day of my life! Me, you, at Twinkle Park! It's so romantic, my dream since I met you! Why do you want to end it so soon?" Amy's smile went upside-down and she looked at Sonic, waiting for an answer.

"...." Sonic hesitated.
"So? Reason?" Amy cocked her head.
"...." Sonic didn't answer.
"...wait, Sonic. Is- Is- Is there..." Her eyes started to fill up with tears.
"...." Sonic stayed silent.
"Th-Ther-There's someone else, isn't there!? I knew it! You never really cared for me!" Amy's tears came rolling down her cheeks, her usually perky jade eyes filled with sorrow.

Sonic finally found his words. "Amy, that's not true! It's jus-"
"I don't wanna hear it!" She started to run off.

"Amy! AMY!" Sonic called out.

"Shadow, what the heck were you doing out?? And without notifying me? Not even a note?" Rouge glared at the hedgehog.

"We were out of pudding, I'd thought I'd be fast enough to get some without you coming back. Eesh." Shadow rolled his eyes and unpacked the mentioned sweet, put five in the fridge and opened one himself.

"For pudding?" Rouge deadpanned.
"Yep." Shadow nodded after eating a spoonful.

"You know, someone could have seen you."
"That's what the coat was for."
"Any followers?"
"Not that I know of."
"Not that you know of?"
"Mmhmm."
"You really were more careful when you weren't pregnant."
"Three more months of pregnant annoying and not careful Shadow for you then."
"Urgh, this is going nowhere, I'm tired, I'm going to bed. You need you rest as well, so after that cup-"
"Yeah, yeah, bed. You're sounding like my mother if I ever had one."
"Pfft. Goodnight."

After Rouge had retired for the night (yes, I know she's a bat, just that 'really quick' nerve racking bomb defusing mission had tired her to the core), Shadow had just finished with his snack, a knocking came at the door.

Shadow opened it.
"Sonic?" Shadow tilted his head and gave a confused glance.
"Hey Shads." Sonic looked down at his feet.

"Something's wrong and you need a place to stay at this hour?"
"Yeah..."
"...." Shadow widened the door opening and let the blue hedgehog inside.

'I am really more emotional now, and my bond with Sonic has grown....maybe this pregnancy isn't that bad.' Shadow voiced in thought.

"So what you're saying is Amy knows about..." Shadow placed a hand on his bump.
"No, just that 'I'm not into her' and stuff like that. Nothing about you." Sonic stated.

Shadow had a moment of relief. "Well, not sure if that's and up or down in this situation, but then again I don't want her at my doorstep screaming bloody murder, but she's probably just mad. She'll get over it." Shadow reassured his rival.
"When did you become a therapist? Gee Shadow, you never were this talkative before." Sonic mused.
"Things change." Shadow crossed his arms right on cue.
"True, that. So...can I stay here for the night?" Sonic asked.
"Why not...?" Shadow let out a yawn.

Rouge The Bat walked down the hallway, she had peeked into Shadow's room and saw he wasn't there.

"Shadow, when I find you..." She muttered.

She got into the livingroom and then saw an adorable sight of two hedgies -black 'n blue- snuggled together on the couch and purring in their sleep.

She decided to let them stay there.
